How To Prepare For Your Cake Smash Session
A cake smash session is a unique and memorable photography experience to celebrate your child's first birthday. This playful and messy session allows your child to have fun while creating lasting memories for you to cherish. Capture the joy and excitement on your child's face as they dive into a cake for the first time, creating beautiful and candid photos that you will treasure forever.
Before You Book
We ask that you schedule your session around 10-11 months in age.
Think about a theme or a color(s) that you would like to use for your session.
Practice when you can with cake, whipped cream and even taking pictures with your baby.
What to Expect
Cake Smash sessions typically last approximately one hour, allowing ample time for capturing precious moments and creating lasting memories. The session starts with milestone pictures, focusing on your little one's unique personality and individuality. Following this, we transition to capturing adorable images of your child dressed in their special cake smash outfit, setting the stage for the fun and excitement to come. The session progresses as we introduce the cake smash element, where your child can enjoy smashing and playing with a delicious cake in a safe and controlled environment. Throughout the session, I strive to create a comfortable and enjoyable experience for both you and your little one, ensuring that the images captured reflect the joy and wonder of this special milestone.
We advise that you wear comfortable clothing as you will be interacting with your child for the entire session.
What to Wear
Choose the theme or color scheme for your child's cake smash photography session before selecting their outfit. To create a memorable and coordinated look, consider purchasing custom-made outfits from Etsy or explore options on Amazon.
Choosing or Making a Cake
Select a small cake, approximately 6-8 inches around. Due to concern for allergens, we do not provide the cake. Please consider the following items when having a cake made:
Please make sure that there are no fondant, gum paste or pearls on the cake as those can be choking hazards for the baby. Small sprinkles are okay.
When ordering the cake, please mention to the baker it is for a Cake Smash session so they do not add any support inside the cake. (Sticks, toothpicks, tubs, etc.) When baby begins to smash the cake, they can get hurt by this.
Be sure the colors of the cake matches the theme of the session. For example, a Mickey Mouse theme can have Black, Yellow and red colors.
Remove the cake from the refrigerator 2-3 hours before the session to allow the frosting to come to room temperature. That way the frosting is soft and easy for baby to destroy.
